Microneedling? The first thought that probably pops into your head is that one of Kim Kardashian dripping blood (vampire facial). A microneedling facial, however, is not so dramatic and the benefits of microneedling are amazing. So, skip the microneedling at home and check out my microneedling before and afters.

I was a sun worshipper in my youth and now my 30-something skin is paying for it. Oh, and that melasma that came with the birth of E. I have tried it all and then I decided to try microneedlng.

Mircroneedling (also known collagen induction therapy) works from the inside out by triggering skin’s natural healing process and inducing micro-regeneration deep within the skin. By gently damaging the skin (I promise this doesn’t hurt and you won’t bleed), you trigger its natural healing properties. This causes the creation of collagen. A pen with a cartridge of tiny needles is used to prick the skin.  This allows any serums or moisturizers to reach deeper levels in your skin. It boosts ingredient absorption up to 90%!  Microneedling is also an effective treatment for acne scars or dark sports since it penetrates the skin.

Benefits of Microneedling

A microneedling facial helps with fine lines and wrinkles by producing natural collagen and elastin. Microneedling benefits include healing and decreasing the appearance of scars from acne, surgeries, and even stretch marks. It also aids in healing acne and stop hormonal break outs by boosting the absorption of products. Microneedling can also treat skin that is to dry or to oily.

Microneedling Facial Treatment

There really isn’t too much prep for the a microneedling facial treatment. I stopped using any products with retinols about a week prior to my appointment. This is the before photo taken right before my treatment started.

I have a ton of sun spots, melasma and fine lines.

They start off by applying a numbing cream that sits for about 45 minutes. You want this cream to work so don’t run late on the way to your appointment!

After wiping off the numbing cream, Moriah, my amazing Medical Aesthetician, applied a serum to my face. The tip of the device holds micro needles and she runs it over your skin. The needles help the serum penetrate deep in your pores. The device does not cause bleeding.

The whole facial took about 45 minutes. Moriah finished off by lathing my skin in good ole Aquaphor ad sent me home with a face mask and some great samples of products. I wasn’t in any pain but my skin felt a little tingling and of course the redness.

What Does the Recovery Look Like From Microneedling?

Here’s how the 5 days of recovery went:

  • Day 1 – my face a little sensitive, just mildly uncomfortable.

  • Day 2 – my face was starting to dry out.

  • Day 3 – I started peeling more in the areas where she went a little bit deeper , and on my chin and around my nose.

  • Day 4 – dry skin, but overall much better looking!

The inflammatory effect of the skin is extremely short and fades significantly within hours from redness to pinkish that may last for 12 to 48 hours. Redness or sensitivity may possibly be present and last up to a few days after your treatment. Use only your hands to pat dry no earlier than 4 hours after treatment gently washing with a gentle cleanser, cool water.

Avoid makeup for 24-48 hours to give your face time to recover. I had to go to work the next day, so I did use minimal makeup and only my Beauty Counter natural stuff.

Peeling may occur 3-5 days afterward. Do not pick or scratch at treated skin but instead keep moisturized. It is highly recommended that you avoid strenuous exercise or sweating for 24 hours due to open pores. Cool compresses help alleviate discomfort after peel if excessive discomfort, burning, redness, or swelling is persistent. Avoid sun exposure for a minimum of three days up to ten days.

Last but not least, you can expect results. Micro-needling is a sought after Hollywood treatment for a variety of skincare problems including improving the overall appearance of skin. So expect to have glowing skin after the recovery period of your very first treatment!

Ya’ll, my skin is so much better than it was. I can definitely see the difference and would totally do it again.

Micro-needling can be safely repeated every 4-6 weeks until the desired results are achieved. To schedule a skincare consultation with Moriah contact her here:
